Here in Kentucky, our spring feels more like winter. We are enduring 40-60 degree weather the last two weeks, which is disappointing. I love spring, especially spring clothing. I am so tired of sweat shirts and boots. I'm ready for dresses and flip flops.
My weekly sewing project this past week was inspired by the impending season. I was hoping by the time I finished, the warmer weather would be making it's way to us, but it's still chilly outside. Weatherman says it should warm soon. *fingers crossed*
I made Heidi some short, simple skirts to add to her spring wardrobe this week.
The strawberry shortcake skirt matches the strawberry silk screen shirt I made her.
Who doesn't love chevron???
I saw this vintage camera fabric at hobby lobby and had to have it! I wasn't sure what I was going to make with it, but when I made Heidi this Top Model shirt using my silhouette machine, I was certain the fabric was perfect for her a matching skirt.
We are those girls who LOVE french themed stuff, so of course there is a Paris skirt in there!
I didn't really use a pattern for these skirts. I wanted them to be a bit puffy so I multiplied her waist measurement by 2 and I wanted it to sit right above her knee so I measure her waist to knee. I cut my fabric 41 inches wide and 14 inches long (I add 2 inches in length for hemming). Using a zig zag stitch I sew the skirt together, making it a tube. Then I hemmed the bottom. For the waist, I sewed a hem leaving an opening to insert my elastic. I ran the elastic all the way through then sewed the ends together and closed up the hem. And Viola! 30 minute spring skirts!
