The Green Good To Go Bag

Always be prepared. It's something I have learned over the last year. Even if it's been six months since Handsome's last seizure, I still keep a dystat syringe in our vehicle, the diaper bag, under his crib mattress, and in my purse. I never want to be somewhere that I don't have immediate access to his emergency seizure meds.

I, also, keep a bag packed for hospital stays. It's been four months since we last checked out of Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, but that doesn't mean that at any giving moment, we won't be heading back.

That's just part of taking care of a special needs child. You have to be prepared. We have no warning that a seizure is coming and we don't have time to pack our clothes, hygiene needs and items to help Handsome feel more at home. When an emergency strikes, we have to be prepared.

So, I came up with what I call my  Green Good- To- Go bag. Its a back pack, that I keep packed and ready to go with everything Handsome and I will need for roughly 72 hours, in the event he's transported to the hospital and admitted. We live about an hour away from the Children's Hospital that Handsome checks into and traveling back and forth everyday is just unrealistic. I need to be prepared for at least a 2-3 day stay with him, so that I don't have to immediately drive home to pack our stuff after an ambulance ride, especially considering the first 72 hours in the hospital is when all the important stuff usually goes down and you don't want to have to miss any of it, because you have to drive home.

My Good- To- Go bag is a life saver! But what exactly do I put in it?

3 days worth of clothes for Handsome and I.
travel size bottles of shampoo/conditioner
travel size tooth paste/ tooth brush
deodorant
soap/ razor
something for entertainment (example: laptop, kindle, book...)
hair brush and hair bands
phone charger (you would be surprised how many times I've left the house without a phone charger before coming up with my bag)
cash for food
a blanket from home for Handsome
Some of handsome's bottles, since he's picky about his feedings
AND
lady products, because you never know if it will be that time of the month!
