return to physical therapy

Last Monday, Handsome went to his first physical therapy session in over two months. This was a huge milestone for us. There was a point in the hospital this past summer, where we thought Handsome's physical therapist may never get to see him again. We worried that even if he did get discharged from the hospital, that he may not be stable enough for physical therapy. We, also, were concerned that people might give up on him. With his poor prognosis, we thought some people might want to wash their hands of us, but that wasn't the case. None of it was.

Handsome stabilized and left the ICU on August 4th. It was an amazing moment when that nurse told me that my son was moving to the floor! And then on August 7th, Handsome got to come home! The transition has not been real smooth, but all that matters is that he is home. We have run into issues with equipment orders, wrong formula being delivered, and now we are having issues receiving our privatized nursing. And those first few nights we were scared to death something would happen and we would be right back in the ICU, so we didn't sleep much... But we have started to settle into a new routine and we are getting used to things. Everyone is adjusting.

And heading back to therapy has been the step of reassurance that it's real. We really are home.
