Purple Pumpkin Contest

Oh how I love this time of year. The weather getting chilly. All the beautiful colors of fall cascading all over my backyard. The food. The witches, goblins and vampires! The candy! The pie! The turkey! The purple pumpkins!

Yes. It's that time of year again, where we paint our pumpkins purple to help raise awareness for epilepsy. Last year, was our first year painting our pumpkins purple. We didn't understand the importance of raising epilepsy awareness until last year, until Handsome was diagnosed with intractable epilepsy. But once he was diagnosed it didn't take our entire family long to learn that controlling epilepsy is not easy and there is no cure.

Raising awareness for epilepsy is something very important to me and the rest of my family, not just to increase funds for epilepsy research, but because two years ago, I didn't know what to do if someone had a seizure. If a friend had seized in front of me, I would have panicked. Raising awareness for epilepsy isn't just about funding research, it's about teaching seizure first aid, as well.

So, I'm asking all my readers, family, and friends, when you decorate your pumpkins this year decorate one for Handsome. Paint it purple! And while you are painting it purple, check out The Epilepsy Foundation for information on how YOU can help and how you can prepare yourself in seizure first aid.

I'd really love to see your finished pumpkins, so email me pictures at xtinabailey@gmail.com. To make things more interesting, I am going to be holding a Purple Pumpkin Contest! Purple Pumpkin photos submitted between October 1st and October 28th will be entered in a contest on my facebook fanpage. The most creative one will win a Handsome awareness bracelet, a gift from avon, and a crocheted item from my shop. Winner will be selected on Halloween!
